WORKING TO CREATE JOBS

While our economy continues to move forward from one of the greatest recessions this country has seen, creating and protecting jobs remains one of Bill's top priorities. Bill is continually fighting to advance projects that will put Bay Staters back to work. His voting record reflects a commitment to bolstering our economy through creative initiatives, tax credits for small business owners and shovel-ready jobs. Bill is also a passionate fighter to protect jobs that may be facing the chopping block.

*Supports Cape Wind, the first commercial-scale offshore wind facility in the country, which will provide approximately three-quarters of the electricity used by residents of the Cape and Islands, and has assisted the project obtain a critical loan guarantee from the Department of Energy to move forward. Cape Wind will create over 1000 regional jobs.
*Saved 141 jobs at Otis Air National Guard Base and is currently working to secure a permanent cyber mission for the base, which would create more jobs for the region.
*Secured numerous grants for research and academic initiatives on Cape Cod, including:
*$1,254,714 for Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole from the Department of Health and Human Services for education projects ranging from mental health research grants to summer courses in neurobiology and aging research.
*$68,300 for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from the National Cancer Institute within the Department of Health and Human Services for cancer cause and prevention research in ovarian cancer.
*$55,000 for Atlantic Public Media Inc in Woods Hole from the National Endowment for the Arts to support production and post production costs for the "Transom Radio Series."
*Authored and introduced the Agree Act with three of his colleagues. The Agree Act is a major, bipartisan jobs bill to reduce barriers to small business growth and, most importantly, get Americans back to work.
*Voted across party lines to repeal the medical device tax. The medical device industry accounts for 24,000 direct jobs in Massachusetts.
*Secured $3 million in grant funding for workforce development, advanced manufacturing, and STEM education for Cape Cod Community College.
*Cosponsored the National Infrastructure Development Bank Act, which would fund and create a bank that would direct public and private dollars toward infrastructure projects of national or regional significance.
*Cosponsored the Workforce Investment Act of 2013, which requires states to establish unified plans that streamline and coordinate the operation of job training, adult education, and postsecondary education.
